Enjoying Outdoor Activities In Waco
Is there anything to do but shop and eat in Waco? Yes! If you love the outdoors and want to spend some time enjoying something other than shopping while in town I have some great tips for you!
Waco Paddle Company: If you would like to get up close and personal with the Brazos River while you are in town one great way to do that is renting a kayak, canoe or stand up paddle board from Waco Paddle. They are open seven days a week when the weather permits it (you can always check Instagram if this is a concern). It’s a great way to beat the Texas heat in the summer and a wonderful way to enjoy the river that rolls through our town.
BSR Surf Resort: WHAT? People can surf in Waco? YES! We have a world famous man made wave park and I mean it when I say people from everywhere come to Waco to use it. This spot is perfect for your teen aged kids who like wild water slides, lazy rivers, and surfing. There are day passes, but for the surf experience reservations are required.
Cameron Park Trails: There are 20 miles of trails to walk or cycle in our own Cameron Park. The canopy of greenery is lush in the spring and much of the summer taking some of the edge off the heat. There are trail maps available online that can help you navigate the level of course you would like to enjoy. The park is over 400 acres and often gives beautiful views of the river. Parking is free and convenient.
Cameron Park Zoo: We have a wonderful zoo in Waco, and I really mean it! I am not always a fan of zoos…and when we moved here I was quite suspicious of the praises sung of our zoo until I went for myself. It is lovely! I have taken my niece and nephew, and gone with friends and each time its been wonderful. The exhibits are nice, the animals are well cared for and the walking trail is great. My favorite is the otter aquarium that children can slide through while otters are swimming around them! If you have young ones with you on your trip, this would be a great way to spend an afternoon.
Brazos Bluffs Stables: If you’d like to see some of the beauty of Central Texas on horseback, I think you’ll love the beauty of the ranch, trails and views of the Brazos that Brazos Bluffs Stables offers. If you look at their website you’ll see they can accommodate all skill levels, and only want to help each rider make great memories in the natural environment here in Waco.
