My Favorite Dinner Spots In Waco

Where Do I Take My Friends To Dinner When They Come To Town?

I am often asked by guests for personal recommendations of what to do around town for a their trip to Waco…so I thought I would put together a few lists of where we take our friends to eat  and visit when they come to town…these are just high lights…if you’re in town for more than a day or two my list gets much better and longer!

My first set of travel tips are my favorite dinner spots. We are foodies…love to eat and love great flavors…so here’s a list of a few of our favorite dinner spots.

Hecho En Waco is great Mexican food.  Mexican food is one of my favorites and have loved  Hecho En Waco since they opened near Magnolia about two years ago. The atmosphere is great, you can eat outside, inside or at the bar. Guacamole is a must for me, and their’s is fresh and delicious. Fresh made tortillas and yummy salsa are also important, and they have both. In the mood for a margarita? They make some really great ones! What Waco visitors also enjoy is that you can walk to the Magnolia Silos from this great little restaurant and there are some other great shops just next door.

Moroso’s Wood Fired Pizzeria is by far my favorite Italian spot in town. Home made Italian dishes, delicious salads, and wood fired thin crust pizza with some super yummy appetizers too! The service is good, there’s a nice wine list and the restaurant is cozy with an open view into the kitchen and the big Italian pizza oven. Some of my personal favorites are the meatball  & arancini appetizers, the lascala salad and every pizza I have tried I love!, It is on the other side of town by the Extraco Event Center but it’s worth the 10 minute drive.

Vitek’s BBQ is delicious, historical and a great venue. This great little BBQ spot has been owned by the same family since 1915. They’re famous for their Gut Pack, which is a choice of BBQ meats on Fritos with a variety of toppings. It’s in the heart of town, right off of Highway 35, near Baylor and just a couple miles from the Magnolia Silos. You can dine in, take out or sit out back in their outdoor patio. We typically grab the two meat plate, and love the sides too!

135 Prime is our favorite steak house, but it is a bit out of town (about 15 minutes from Waco). If you are in town for a few days, it is absolutely worth it. Texas is famous for its cattle ranches and high quality beef, and if you are coming from out of state and enjoy beef I strongly encourage a nice steak dinner while you are in Waco. My second favorite (and its a very close second) steak house which is very close to the Magnolia Silos and Baylor is Diamond Backs. Both have aged steaks, nice atmospheres and excellent wine lists.

Union Hall is my newest “favorite.” They have an assortment of dining experiences within the same dining spot. My favorite is the ramen at Koko Ramen, however when we go as a family my mom grabs a burger, our son grabs tapas Mexican food and there are several other choices too. This is a great spot to eat when you have a group of folks who can’t decide where to go to dinner! There are also a few great desert options including gourmet waffles and milkshakes….YUM.

In the coming weeks I will continue to post more fun tips about my favorite spots to shop, visit and eat all over town.
