Home Made Vanilla
We’ve had some fun making home made vanilla this weekend. Vanilla makes me think of making chocolate chip cookies as a child. I have always loved the smell….and I love it as an ingredient. I hope to give some of these away as hostess gifts and maybe even with a jar of home made jam for a Christmas gift.
Since folks have asked, here is our VERY simple recipe.
8 ounce bottles
8 ounces of vodka or bourbon (does not have to be high quality)
4 or 5 vanilla beans cut down the middle
Pour in your vodka or bourbon and make sure the beans are completely covered.
Shake them once a week, some folks say you can use them as early as 8 weeks but we will let ours sit longer before we use it. If you let it sit for 6-12 months it should be amazing!
