Our Wall of Memories…a beautiful twist to the traditional guest book.

One of the cutest spots in our home is what I lovingly refer to as “Our Wall of Memories.”  Some homes have guest books, but our guest book is an ever changing legacy of love, never the same from one week to the next because our guests are continually adding to it.  We have a cozy little nook right off of the kitchen, that has a small desk, chair, bench and this beautiful way of memorializing the incredible stories of the wonderful folks who have stayed at The Morrow House. We have notes from “the Nurses of Tennessee” the “Baylor Bear Pledge Class of 1982,” countless families, friends and bridal parties who have shared laughter, love and good times in our home. 

In a time of social media, and text messaging, there is something special about a hand written note on a piece of stationary that seems more meaningful and memorable to me. As an early riser, when we travel I often wake up before everyone else, and I imagine if I were staying in The Morrow House I would spend that time while others slept to stand with my cup of coffee in front of this wall and read the messages of people from all over the world who I will never meet, but who have shared an experience with me in some small way in this home. These messages show us that humanity is sacred, that we are all largely pursuing the same things…love, laughter and shared memories.

I would love to take credit for this beautiful, living guest book, but this idea was birthed from the designer of the home Amy Normand. I am honored that it is mine to shepherd and oversee because quite simply it brings such joy!

While shopping at Spice Village recently (one of the greatest spots in Waco, if you haven’t gone you really should!) I saw one of the vendors had these same chains for sale. They are a simple black chain with small clips, yet so very beautiful when hung. This inexpensive purchase is literally like a living piece of art in our home. I believe these would also be beautiful for hanging photos, Christmas and birthday cards or favorite recipes in a kitchen.

I hope if you ever get the opportunity to stay with us that you will share a bit of your adventure with us about time well spent with people you love. 

If you can’t make it to Spice Village in Waco to buy your own Metal Chain Garland, you can look for a local antique shop in your area that sells Peacock Park Design Products. I also did a quick Amazon search and found this (the pic below) and others that are similar and just as special.
